Why your dog should always have on an ID tag...

In the unfortunate event that a pet dog goes missing, all dog owners should be prepared to plan for the ahead by ensuring that their pet has proper identification on. By making sure your pet has on an id tag will make finding and returning the pet to its home a more easier task in any case that the dog may wander off and get lost.

First of all, all pet owners should know that identification on the pet is not the only move to make. To make sure that the pet ID tag will remain on the pet to is to purchase a good collar that will properly hold the pet ID tag. Knowing that the pet's collar ID is secure is the first step to feeling more rest-assured that the pet will be more quickly returned to its rightful owner. A loose pet ID tag doesn't do any good if it's not able to properly stay on your pet.

You should also keep in mind to put YOUR OWN phone number on your pet's tag. For example, if you put your vet's number or if your dog has one of those "rabies vaccination" tags, it won't help the swift return of your pet to you. Many times, lost dogs will be found on weekends or after hours of operation at the pet clinic. There are many places where you're able to purchase a "custom" pet tag where you can have the company put your information on it.

Having your pet tattooed or micro chipped shouldn't stop you from getting a pet ID for them either. You should still get your pet a ID tag  and note the tattoo or micro chip serial number as well as the chip phone number and registry information on the tag.

To make sure your pet ID tag will last, ordering dog tags made of stainless steel will add more reliability. Although many dog tags are available in plastic, aluminum, tin or brass, these other metals have more of a tendency to discolor.
